Creating process of my local newspaper inside-front cover

These images display the difficultly trying to successfully create a realistic local newspaper. The layout positioning and content was key, and these images show the difficulty with
placement to enable I would walk away with the best out come.

Main Article Drafts

Main Article:

With the upcoming celebrations for the 100th anniversary on the 11th November this year, locals  George and Daniel  Goody found the memorial covered in eggs. The first world war veterans lives  are to be remembered and a special occasion where Buckingham Palace’s moat is to be filled with poppies celebrating the 100th anniversary. Mr   Goody told us, “I  am disgusted, I  can’t believe    anyone would disrespect those who had sacrificed their lives for their families and especially with       the anniversary coming up. Living on the high road I am often disrupted by young rowdy teenagers who’ve been drinking on a Saturday night at ridiculous hours. I immediately thought on Sunday morning it would’ve been those sort of people, it has to be, no one else would have so little respect for our fallen hero’s”.

Other Article:

Local pub owner Bill Stutchfield managed to raise nearly £1,300 for breast cancer. On the weekend the popular ‘boozer’ organised a bouncy castle for the children, hog roast and other activities. The locals favourite beer  garden was in full swing when what felt like the whole town got together for such a wonderful occasion. Even the landlord himself  got  into  the spirit with a game of ‘wet-sponge’ where  customers would  get   three sponges to be launched at the landlord. Bill Stutchfield  said “It  was  such  a lovely  day for a wonderful cause, I’m  glad I could help  support  and do  as  much  as  I could to raise some money, I’d like to say a special thank you to the staff”,

Neighbours frustrated  by the soon to be flats  still being worked  on. The restructure turning the six   bedroom house into flats has  been going on  upcoming  two years next month. The company ‘Samuels’ claim a lack  of  funds has slowed the process rather than personal company issues, with  the apartments already been sold.

My Ideal Reader

When considering my audience I thought it would be a good idea
to have an ideal reader. Similar to the daily express with their ideal
reader, Doris, who had two cats and played the national lottery.
My ideal reader is very similar to the farther in Malcolm in the Middle.
A farther of two-three who after work returns home has dinner with
his family talking about all their daily affairs. He'll read the newspaper
during lunch at work, or when arriving home, he is interested in
health so always flicks to the food, garden and spot sections.
Although he's not particularly up to date with technology loves
to be connected with the rest of the community by knowing the local news.
My ideal reader loves crime blockbusters so loves reading when
something big happens against the law in his local area to tell
all his friends on poker night on the first Thursday of every month.

My Masthead designs

This image displays the different avenue's I explored for my local newspaper masthead,
I decided to go for the bottom right masthead (circled one) as I felt it looked the
most professional and presents my local newspaper in a clean and sophisticated manor.

Working with fonts and styles for masthead outcome

The first image shows the early stages for generating a local newspaper idea. It portrays the idea for the titles but also some early stages of some designs. As you may see in comparison to the image  on the next post that I changed from the subject of 'Epping Forest' to 'Loughton' as I realised that Epping Forest is a far to vast of an area to cover local news. I experimented with colour and font and with Loughton being surrounded by the greenery of Epping Forest I wanted to include an iconic image to represent the queens gardens. I have circled the final design in red. I chose this because I feel it looks professional and has a strong link with the colouring and the antlers.

Reflection of the conventions of Local newspaper front covers

When analysing the front covers and inside page, I looked at three different newspapers in detail, Kentish Express (Ashford and District), The Coventry Telegraph and The Brighton and Hove Leader.

When analysing the front covers of the local newspapers I could see some feature differences between each one. For example the Coventry Telegraph contained mostly gossip and sport related stories on the front cover, it also included some adverts about real estate and care homes. The coventry Telegraph unconventionally didn't contain a consistent colour scheme. The main headline seems to dominate most of the front cover rather than the main image. This contrasted with the Brighton and Hove Leader as the articles were mostly about concerns in the area. It also had a consistent blue colour scheme running throughout the newspaper but mostly the front page and several small articles in the inside page. The centre of the page has an image, man headline and a main article, however the Leader did also have similar adverts to The Coventry Telegraph. The Kentish Express displayed stories featuring mostly about the area and town improvements or concerns, similar to the Leader. There is one main headline with the article and pictures to draw attention to the importance of the article. On the front cover it also contained a small 'feature' sectioned providing the reader a brief insight of what the paper includes. Similarly the the Coventry Telegraph there is no clear colour scheme either, but includes advertisement for family days out or local pubs with a similar real estate advertisement.

When making my local newspaper I will try to have a consistent colour scheme bringing together the different ideas of these newspapers for the most realistic outcome, featuring adverts and a similar layout ensuring that my local newspaper will adhere to conventions but also standout with key differences.

Research and Inspiration for Articles

For these two video's I used TubeChop to edit YouTube video's, this was an experiment using this software to see how it could be used in future, however this also displays some of the research I did for my articles.

Timeline

Here I used an online software called dipity to create a timeline and show the journey I will take throughout the year. I also learnt I can use this website as another slide show presentation.

Introduction

In my second year of doing my Media A level, I have tested many other blog's, such as 'tumblr' and 'wordpress' however, I've come to the conclusion that blogger is best for me, I will be incorporating with other online software to ensure professional and easy accessible outcomes for my local newspaper, website and billboard research and designs.

Questions to the public

These are the questions I am going to present to the public, rather than creating a questionnaire to be handed out or to be answered online I am going to create a short video of the publics answers to my questions from the interview. I am going to use software such as 'TubeChop' to integrate the answers one after another. Below are the examples of questions I will be asking.
